Hammoud-Gallego will join CGD for an online presentation of his thesis in which he will discuss the development, determinants and effects of migration and asylum policies of three research articles examining the development of asylum policies in Latin America, the rationale behind the expansion of refugee protection in Latin America, and the effects of visa restrictions in a context of mass displacement and porous borders. He will also discuss his newly-developed methodology – the Asylum Policies in Latin America (APLA) Database.

This discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A session.

*CGD’s Research Seminar Series (RSS) invites leading development scholars to discuss their new research and ideas. The presentations are at times technical but retain a focus on a mixed audience of researchers and policymakers.
