Katie Douglas Martel is the former director of institutional advancement at CGD. She began working at CGD in January 2010 as a member of the Global Health Policy team, going on to work in the President’s office before joining the institutional advancement team. A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Martel earned her BA in Public Policy from Duke University and her MPP with a concentration in international development from Georgetown University. Her thesis evaluated the impact of access to credit and microloans on household schooling decisions in Hyderabad, India. Prior to joining CGD, she served as a program officer for the Wallace Genetic Foundation, interned in the Congressional and Public Affairs office of the Millennium Challenge Corporation while in graduate school, and worked as an analyst at the Corporate Executive Board.
