Hewlett Match

As CGD embarks on its second decade of working to reduce global poverty and inequality, we are delighted to be the recipients of a special 10th Anniversary challenge pledge from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. This generous support will match gifts of general operating support from our individual and institutional supporters. These investments will enable CGD to expand our rigorous, relevant, and respected research and analysis—and turn more of it into action.

Hewlett Foundation Board member Byron Auguste announced this special commitment in early June at our Embassy Progressive Dinner.

William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Board member Byron Auguste announcing the Foundation’s pledge to CGD at the 2011 Embassy Progressive Dinner“On behalf of the Hewlett Foundation, it’s my great pleasure to announce a special 10th Anniversary pledge to CGD of $5 million in institutional support over the next three years. This is in addition to our regular general support grant to CGD, which will continue as well. This special anniversary commitment from Hewlett is in recognition of CGD’s impressive record of impact over the past 10 years, and in support of its ambitious plans for expanding its work to reach new sources of influence in global development policy debates, with an emphasis on emerging powers in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.” (Watch a video of the announcement below.)

Through their generous $5 million pledge, Hewlett will provide the Center with $2 million in institutional support in 2011 and up to an additional $3 million in matching gifts over the next three years.  Now your gift to the Center can make an even bigger difference in the world.

The Hewlett Foundation has supported CGD since 2002 with grants from their Global Development, Population, and Environment Programs. This gift represents Hewlett’s commitment to fostering long-term growth and to encouraging similar institutions and individuals to provide flexible support to institutions like CGD.

The Board and staff of the Hewlett Foundation are committed to providing long-term core support to leading research institutions – at home and abroad – that are informing policy debates across the foundation’s major program areas.
