Trade policy, including trade preference programs, can reduce global poverty and promote economic growth and stability in the world’s poorest countries. Unfortunately, preference programs regularly exclude commodities that poor countries can produce competitively, such as agricultural products and clothing, and many programs must be frequently renewed, creating uncertainty and discouraging investment. This session will explore how changes in trade policy can promote growth in the world’s poorest countries.
