Opening Remarks

Masood Ahmed, President Center for Global Development

Speaker

Janet L. Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury

On Thursday, October 6, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will deliver remarks in Washington on key challenges facing the global economy—including shocks from COVID-19 and Putin’s illegal war against Ukraine—and their acute impact on developing countries and relationship with longer-term development trends. Secretary Yellen will outline ideas for how the multilateral development banks (MDBs) must evolve so that development finance better addresses these complex and interrelated global challenges of the 21st century and continues to support investments for poverty reduction and sustainable, inclusive growth. These remarks ahead of the 2022 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) will be hosted by the Center for Global Development (CGD).

Media must RSVP with Jeremy Gaines at jgaines@cgdev.org by Wednesday, October 6th, at 10:00am Eastern Time (US and Canada).
