Demystifying Special Drawing Rights (SDRs): Adrienne Cheasty on the CGD Podcast

As the world prepares for a new Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) allocation by the International Monetary Fund on August 23rd, global policy discussions have turned to the possible uses of SDRs and the best ways to support developing countries.

But let's back up–what are SDRs? How do they work? For this episode of the CGD podcast, I invite Adrienne Cheasty of the University of Oxford, and formerly of the IMF, to break it down with me.

Together we discuss the goals and possibilities of SDRs, what the new allocation means, and what needs to happen to ensure its effectiveness.
