ABOUT THE EVENT

Around the world, governments at all levels struggle to rapidly and accurately produce data on total deaths as well as deaths and cases of COVID-19. Too often policymakers “fly blind” in the midst of this pandemic, affecting our collective ability to determine appropriate policy responses and to evaluate policy effectiveness. This event will look at one set of efforts to move rapid mortality surveillance forward in low- and middle-income countries with a specific example from Brazil, discuss new strategies to obtain and analyze data more quickly, assess how external funders are supporting surveillance and mortality data collection, and contribute ideas for more ambitious efforts to improve the timeliness, accuracy, and availability of data in this area.
