Cancelled: Taking Stock of G20 Outcomes for Pandemic Response and Risks

This event has been cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your interest.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Over the weekend, G20 heads of state are meeting in Rome for the first in-person G20 summit since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The three pillars of action – People, Planet and Prosperity – encompass global goals of eradicating poverty, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and responding to both the current pandemic and future health shocks.

On the agenda will be the recommendations of the G20-mandated High Level Independent Panel on Financing the Global Commons for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, co-chaired by WTO Director-General and former Nigerian Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore, and former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers. These and other global finance leaders and civil society organizations have urged G20 leaders to take decisive action to advance the COVID-19 response and ensure the world is better prepared to manage future pandemic threats.

Will G20 leaders meet the moment at this summit? What is the path forward for the G20 Panel’s proposals? Join CGD and Pandemic Action Network to take stock of G20 outcomes and look ahead at what comes next to improve global governance and financing for pandemic preparedness and response.
