Rajesh Mirchandani @rajeshmirchand
Senior Director of Communications and Policy Outreach, Center for Global Development

This was the first of CGD's summer film series, Global Development Matters

Rajesh Mirchandani moderated a discussion and Q&A with RYOT co-founder David Darg following the screening of three short films.

Darg spent the last decade as a first responder and frontline contributor for Reuters, the BBC and CNN, covering some of the world's largest natural disasters and wars. As a filmmaker, Darg has won numerous awards including Best Documentary Short at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and MountainFilm Festival for Body Team 12, and a Special Jury Mention at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival for Baseball in the Time of Cholera.

Body Team 12 is tasked with collecting the dead at the height of the Ebola outbreak. These body collectors have arguably the most dangerous and gruesome job in the world. Yet despite the strain they emerge as heroes while the film explores their philosophy and strength.

Baseball in the Time of Cholera is the story of a young Haitian boy who plays in Haiti's first little league baseball team and the Haitian Lawyer seeking justice against the UN. As the epidemic spreads, the two stories intersect in the struggle for survival and justice.

Nepal Virtual Reality is RYOT's recently released virtual reality piece about the post-earthquake crisis in Nepal. Join us to check out the latest development in the evolution of disaster reporting, bringing a mobile Nepal virtual reality video to global audiences for the very first time.
