Looking ahead to the 2006 IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Singapore, the head of the IMF, Rodrigo de Rato, discussed the Fund’s strategy for assisting low-income countries. He described how the Fund is refocusing its commitment and improving its effectiveness in working with the world's poorest countries. Priorities include providing advice on economic policies, helping countries to avoid relapsing into unsustainable debt, and helping to manage the macroeconomic dimension of scaled-up aid. The event also featured a panel discussion with: Kemal Dervis, Administrator, United Nations Development Programme; Ricardo Hausmann, Director, Center for International Development, Harvard University; Dennis de Tray, Vice President, Center for Global Development and was moderated by Liliana Rojas-Suarez, Senior Fellow, Center for Global Development.
