ABOUT THE EVENT

Despite early and aggressive lockdown measures, COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the country’s population, health system, and economy. Peru has one of the highest number of cases in Latin America and the world, with no sign yet of decline, and the economic outlook for the country is grim with the World Bank projecting a 12% drop in GDP in 2020.

This session will examine the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects in Peru, how the country is coping with and responding to the crisis, including successes and opportunities missed, the role of the international community in the response, and what more is needed for the challenging months ahead. Speakers will also consider the experience of Peru in relation to other countries in the region and around the world.
