A New Era at the Inter-American Development Bank: Six Recommendations for the New President

Political leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean are becoming increasingly assertive in articulating their own visions of how to bring about inclusive growth in the region. At the same time, rapid growth in private sector capital flows means that official flows, including funding from the Inter-American Development Bank, are becoming less important. How should the IADB respond to these complex challenges? The Center for Global Development and the Latin America Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee (CLAAF), an independent group of senior Latin American economists and former policymakers, offered six recommendations, based on a review of the IADB’s strengths and risks, at this CGD event. Following the presentation of the recommendations, Luis Alberto Moreno, the new president of the IADB, offered his comments.
