Each year, millions of children die from diseases that could be prevented by current and future vaccines. Through an innovative financing mechanism called Advanced Market Commitments (AMCs), donor governments and foundations are investing in a new market-driven process that seeks to accelerate the development and introduction of appropriate and affordable vaccines in impoverished countries. Starting with a focus on vaccines to prevent pneumonia - one of the largest causes of child deaths around the world - the current efforts on AMCs promise to create markets for vaccines in developing nations comparable to markets in wealthier countries. Join the Global Health Council, the GAVI Alliance, PATH, PneumoADIP, and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative to learn more about this groundbreaking method for bringing cost-effective public health interventions to those most in need around the world.

Speakers:
Ruth Levine, Director of Programs and Senior Fellow, Center for Global Development
Orin Levine, Executive Director, GAVI's PneumoADIP
Dr. Fred Were, President, Kenyan Pediatric Association

Moderator:
Maurice Middleberg, Vice President for Public Policy, Global Health Council
