ABOUT THE EVENT

The COVID-19 pandemic is on track to take a global human and economic toll unprecedented in modern times. The overriding imperative of implementing effective health measures in each affected country, along with the need to address the damaging economic effects of the pandemic, point to a pressing need for mobilizing financing. For developing countries in particular, the financing constraint is severe, and in major crises, is typically alleviated through the support of institutions like the IMF and World Bank, along with major donor countries.

But how will these donors behave when their own countries are on the front lines of the pandemic? Are the multilateral institutions prepared to step up? And what scale financing is needed to simultaneously support direct health measures while also addressing a severe economic downturn globally?

In this online discussion, a panel of experts will discuss these issues, offering their takes on the current state of play and what’s needed next.
