CGD TALKS

Development in the 21st Century

On Wednesday, January 6, 2010, The Center for Global Development was honored to host Development in the 21st Century, an address by Secretary of State of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton. The Obama administration has pledged to elevate development to a much more prominent role in U.S. foreign policy alongside defense and diplomacy, and towards that end has launched both a Presidential Study Directive on U.S. global development policy and the first-ever Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review. Nearly a year into her new role, Secretary Clinton shared her views on new directions in U.S. global development policy and its importance at home and abroad. Nancy Birdsall, president of the Center for Global Development, welcomed the audience and fielded questions for Secretary Clinton.
