ABOUT THE EVENT
In the Biden Administration's Interim National Security Guidance of March 2021, the United States declared its intent to "provide foreign assistance to promote global stability and offer an alternative to predatory development models" through U.S. development agencies and financing tools. Marshalling a response to China, both within the U.S. government and with U.S. allies, has emerged as a motivating force behind the new administration's development finance agenda, and foreign policy more broadly.
At the recent G7 Summit, Leaders announced a unified vision for global infrastructure development and introduced Build Back Better World, a values driven, high-standard, and transparent infrastructure partnership aimed at mobilizing infrastructure investments in low- and middle-income countries.
But how does the Administration intend to operationalize these commitments? To what degree will this agenda also seek to cooperate with China on key global challenges like climate change and pandemic response? How does the Administration think about "competition" with China, including in third countries? How does the Administration think about infrastructure needs at home and abroad? To answer these questions, the Center for Global Development invites you to attend this important conversation with U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Daleep Singh on Responding to China in the Developing World.
Mr. Singh serves as President Biden's Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council. As such, he oversees the Administrations' international economic policies and serves as the President's "Sherpa" in the G7 and G20. Singh has had a distinguished career in public service and has held leadership positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
