CGD Meetup: The Strongest Link

nameAs part of our May Meetup, we will host an informal screening of the one-hour film, "The Strongest Link"--which is one in a six-part series called A Dollar a Day, produced by U.S. and Dutch filmmakers. Filmed in the shanty towns of South Africa, this episode shows how Access to Healthcare can make a real difference in the future of a family. Bulewla Cima, a young woman with AIDS seeks to keep the disease from spreading to her unborn child. While government healthcare plans are slowly being implemented, the boundaries of the healthcare system fall far short of the needs in the townships and Bulewa courageously works to educate others in the community on AIDS prevention and counsels other women suffering with the disease.

Join us at 6:00pm for snacks and informal networking. The film will start promptly at 6:30pm, with discussion to follow, led by Michael Bernstein, Program Coordinator of the HIV/AIDS Monitor at the Center for Global Development.
