CGD TALKS

CAFTA, Democracy and Development in Costa Rica and the Region

This event, co-sponsored with ActionAid International USA, Inter-American Dialogue and Oxfam America, featured a lively conversation with Ottón Solís, who narrowly lost last year's presidential election and is President and Co-founder of Costa Rica's Citizens Action Party. Solís discussed the options and potential implications for Costa Rica with regard to the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Ambassador Rene León of the Embassy of El Salvador then discussed these issues from El Salvador's perspective. Kimberly Elliott, Joint Senior Fellow, Center for Global Development and Peterson Institute for International Economics, served as moderator and Peter Hakim, President, Inter-American Dialogue offered introductory remarks.
