A year ago Donald Kaberuka became the president of the African Development Bank, the sixth-largest source of aid to the continent and the only major African-owned donor. The AfDB, which very nearly collapsed in the mid 1990s, has bounced back in recent years but has still yet to establish itself as a leading player in Africa’s battle to promote development. This report by the independent AfDB Working Group—the third in a series of CGD reports that provide strategic advice for the new leadership of major international organizations—provides six bold recommendations for President Kaberuka and the AfDB’s shareholders to help guide the next phase of the Bank’s recovery.

“Building Africa’s Development Bank: Six Recommendations for the AfDB and its Shareholders”. Scott, AfDB Working Group Member and Senior Vice President, Africare.
