Partnerships

As a small organization, CGD benefits from partnerships with a wide range of organizations. A few of these relationships are contractual, with both partners formally committed to uphold their end of the bargain. More commonly, these are informal relationships, in which CGD and the partner organization join together in support of a common goal, for example, to jointly host an event, sponsor research, distribute materials, or publish a book. We are grateful for the collaboration and assistance of the following organizations.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Committed to reducing global health inequities, the Gates Foundation supports the Global Health Policy Research Network, of which CGD is the Secretariat, as a tool for developing and implementing a research agenda and evidence base for strategic decisionmaking, particularly in advocacy and grant-making efforts.

The Brookings Institution

CGD researchers have co-authored publications with staff of Brookings, including The Other War: Global Poverty and The Millennium Challenge Account.

Center for Budget and Policy Priorities

CGD partners with the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities each year to analyze development assistance spending and budget requests.

DATA

CGD research often informs the advocacy work of DATA, an organization working to end the crises of Debt, AIDS, and Trade in the world's poorest continent, Africa.

Foreign Policy Magazine

Each year, CGD teams up with Foreign Policy to produce the Commitment to Development Index which ranks the world's richest countries based on their dedication to policies that benefit the 5 billion people living in poorer nations worldwide.

Institute for International Economics

IIE and CGD have a particularly special alliance. The Center was housed in IIE's new Peter G. Peterson building for the first six months after its initial launch. The sister organizations conduct joint projects and make joint appointments of senior staff. In addition, IIE Director C. Fred Bergsten is a co-founder of CGD, and serves on the Center's Executive Committee.

International Center for Research on Women

A distinguished member of CGD's Board, Susan Levine, is also the chair of the board of the International Center for Research on Women. CGD President Nancy Birdsall is a former member of ICRW's board. CGD and ICRW worked closely together on the Millennium Project Task Force, with ICRW taking the lead on preparation of the gender equality report.

Initiative for Global Development (formerly the Seattle Initiative for Global Development)

The Center for Global Development contributed substantially to the Initiative for Global Development's report "A New Global Development Strategy to End Extreme Poverty."

United Nations

CGD has several ties to the United Nations, including a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme under which CGD President Nancy Birdsall contributed to the UNDP's most recent Human Development Report. In addition, Birdsall serves as co-chair of the U.N. Millennium Project Taskforce on Education and Gender Equality and Steve Radelet is a member of the U.N. Millennium Project Taskforce on Poverty and Economic Development.
